I have seen something like this before, but I cant put my finger on it yet I just don't have the resources to duplicate another computer I may just put it on the credit card IF I can afford what I need If other vehicle faults are present, please continue troubleshooting the vehicle based on those faults.Remember Me?

How To Fix Check Engine Light Code P0171 In a 2017 BMW X5!

I am having problems with fault codes that I believe have to do with the 02 sensor. Car has no power and drivetrain malfunctions regularly.

Codes are: 1B terminal-electrical short circuit to ground or open ci 12BLamba probe heating after catalyst activation short circuit to ground 12B same thing but before catalyst Any experience with this? Appreciate 0. Major General. Correct - your downpipe probably has no catalytic converter. JB4 should take care of faking the 02 sensor readings, but I'm not sure how to activate that. Could be one of the connectors to the 02 sensors is shorted out as well, or one of the sensors itself is damaged somehow.

Appreciate 1. Any other feedback. These codes are still coming up and not having much luck. Sounds like it's related to the downpipe. And some people say you can buy high-end downpipe and not get engine fault codes.

Hitch him up. That's an actual sensor issue, not a efficiency code which you will get from carless downpipes. The first one is to ambiguous but the second ones mean either bad connections or damaged sensors. Every O2 sensor has a heating element built in which is needed to give you accurate reading when you first start the vehicle.

That is part having an issue. Did you disconnect the sensors from the harness during install? I know when installing the down pipe, the installer was trying to pull some "slack" from the harness to connect to the 02 wiring connection.

It would not surprise me if him pulling on it caused there to be a wire disconnected at the other end hence the "short circuit to ground or open CI. I appreciate any diagnosis and remedial work recomendations sir!!!

Posted and Edit by AutoCodes. To diagnose a failed ECU check the primary ignition signal supplied to the ignition coil with an oscilloscope, the signal will be weak or not present if the ECU has failed.

The root-cause of the failure is normally due to a faulty ignition coil going short circuit and drawing excessive current through the ECU, this in turn overloads the ignition coil activation circuits within the ECU. Replacing the ignition coil alone will not cure the problem and the shorted-out ECU may even overload the new coil, causing a vicious cycle of Coil-ECU-Coil damage.

It is always best to check for an ignition primary signal to the coil before replacing it, if there is no primary output signal from the ECU then it can be assumed the ECU is damaged, in this instance the ECU fault should be rectified BEFORE fitting a replacement coil to avoid damaging the new coil with a faulty ECU. If in doubt it is always best to replace the ignition coil with a new one when refitting the rebuilt ECU if you suspect the coil could have been fitted when the ECU was faulty.

You only get a one-year warranty from the manufacturer when you buy a new ECU so you really are getting the best of both worlds - a cheaper alternative to a new ECU with a much longer warranty to boot. Part was picked up on time, i was kept upto date throughout and the item was shipped back quickly in really good packaging. I now definitely wont fail my mot on an otherwise spotless car!

Somewhat related and possibly dumb question, but are those clips that hold the vacuum line replaceable? I broke one that connects to the chargepipe when I was installing it. It doesn't seem to be causing any issues as it seems to be pretty well-seated, so it's mostly just for my own peace of mind. All times are GMT The time now is PM. Mark Forums Read. Thread Tools. Others have had the thermostat housing replaced and the problem went away When you say the 'engine runs the same' - how is it running? What was the initial symptom when the problem first happened? Did this happen after any changes to the car? How many miles on the car? I already replace the spark plug and the coil but still the same code showing and the engine runs the same thing.

Anybody can help me? Thank you! P Bad O2 sensor? Bad connection at O2 sensor? Bad catalytic converter? Unfortunately, I can't determine if P it the upstream or downstream sensor. I recommend you try swapping the upstream and downstream sensor to see if you get a different code - they are both identical sensors.
