Spiritual meaning of chest congestion

I have been dealing with a lot of grief lately. This is usually the way it goes. A patient comes in who is suffering with loss. Perhaps it is the breakup of a relationship, the loss of a pet or the death of a loved one. There is nothing more devastating to us than loss. It hurts the heart and leaves us with an emptiness that is difficult to fill. It is something that everyone on the planet will have to deal with many times in their lives, so I thought that I would talk about some of the ways that it can be made a little easier, less painful, and with minimal suffering in the context of Traditional Chinese Medicine TCM.

I find that I tend to treat conditions in waves. It is common for a patient to seek out treatment for say, anxiety, and then you find that for the next little while, there is a constant stream of anxious patients coming to see you.

And lately, many patients have been suffering with grief. Grief is a natural, healthy emotion and is an important part of being human. Unpleasant as it may be to feel, it is important that we feel it, make our peace with it, and let it go. I am not talking about letting go of the memory of the pet, the person you are no longer with, or the loved one who has passed away. Those are memories you will have forever. It is the grief itself that must be expressed so that it can be let go.

This is healthy. So, how do we measure grief? It is true that you cannot listen to grief with a stethoscope, or measure it with a blood test. How it is experienced is highly individualistic. The severity of the grief is not reflected in how it is seen from the outside, it is measured by how it is felt by the individual, or experienced from the inside.Your Personal Wellness Consultant.

Grief and The Lungs

Lack of integrity. The Lungs are the organs of respiration, responsible for supplying oxygenated blood to every organ of the body and eliminating the waste matter from the cells through our expiration. In emotional and spiritual terms, the Lungs balance the ability to yield and demand, give and take, hold on and let go. In Chinese Medicine the health of the spleen also correlates to the lungs; for example, if a spleen is weak, there is a propensity for colds and sinus problems.

When we got to the discussion about how grief can negatively impact the health of the organs associated with the metal element including the lungs and sinuses, she recognized it might accurately reflect her situation. We did two EFT sessions combined with hypnosis focused on the emotion of grief, and her sinuses cleared rapidly. I also referred her for acupuncture supported by a scientific study of chronic recalcitrant sinusitis. My first personal experience with my own grief-related symptoms occurred after going to watch a movie in a cold, drafty theater.

I felt like I was coming down with a cold afterward, but drank hot ginger tea while taking a hot bath to sweat it out and nipped it in the bud. However, the following evening, I developed annoying post-nasal drip. The associated nagging cough kept me up for the next two nights. Finally, feeling sleep deprived and desperate in the middle of the third night I began to do EFT on my frustration with not knowing why I had this persistent symptom.

In my practice, this symbolic approach with the Chinese five elements often provides the key to healing for patients whose immune symptoms appear quite mysterious and are labeled idiopathic in conventional medicine. I encourage my academic colleagues who are allergists, ENT specialists and pulmonologists to ask their patients if they have suffered a recent loss and to consider doing more rigorous research in this area.

Sandy and Ron. Calling all HuffPost superfans!Last Updated: December 9, Have you ever felt pain in your heart chakra? Manifesting as emotional symptoms, such as sadness, moodiness, mistrust or being overly critical or possessive, pain in the sensitive heart chakra can lead to a whole range of adverse reactions.

Physical imbalances in this chakra might include a cardiac or respiratory issue or a feeling of pain and heaviness in the heart. Rejection, abuse, grief, trauma and loss are emotionally painful to experience and can leave an energetic imprint in the heart chakra.

The heart chakra is located in the chest area and bridges the lower and upper chakras. In effect, it connects the physical with the spiritual.

When the energy in this center is disturbed or blocked, you may experience a resurgence of painful or negative emotions. A blocked heart chakra hurts on an emotional level, but it can also lead to the manifestation of physical disease and illness if not addressed, cleared and healed. Heart disease, cardiovascular disease, coronary artery disease, abnormal heart rhythms, arrythmias and congenital heart disease are just some of the physical manifestations of heart chakra imbalance.

Lung and respiratory issues including asthma, pulmonary disease, emphysema, chronic bronchitis and pneumonia can also arise. Breast cancer and upper back issues can result, and a disruption to the thymus gland can impede immune system functioning.

Of all the chakras, the heart chakra is central to our ability to give and receive love. Life experiences and issues that impact the fourth chakra include death of a loved one, divorce, rejection, breach of trust, adultery, abandonment, injustice and emotional abuse.

The heart chakra is central to our ability to give and receive love, and love is the base and source of all healing. Love comes from three main sources — from others, from within ourselves self-love and from a Universal source Divine Love. All of these kinds of love register within the heart chakra, and all can have a profoundly healing effect.

Loving and forgiving yourself and others is central to healing and releasing blockages of the heart chakra, since holding on to resentments from the past hurts yourself the most. Finding the lesson in a painful experience and releasing the grievance has tremendous healing effects. Practicing self-love and self-respect are key to heart chakra healing.

This is best accomplished by tuning into the spiritual part of yourself — your soul or essence — and radiating love to the human part of yourself.

Send love and gratitude toward what you appreciate about yourself, and forgiveness and compassion toward your shortcomings. Over time, you will develop a strong core of self-love which will radiate from your heart chakra and help keep it balanced.
